October 2010
This cruise-in is being held for Amanda Bowman.  Amanda is a 13 year old little girl.  She has a rare form of dwarfism called Conradi Hunnerman Syndrome.  She was also born with a skin condition called Ichthosis.  With this skin condition the pores of her skin are closed and this prevents her ability to sweat or regulate her body temperature.  She must be cool in the summer and warm in the winter.  Because of her inability to sweat, if she becomes overheated it can become life threatening.  So far Amanda has had 10 surgeries.  They are as follows:
-3 surgeries between the age of 2 weeks and 4 weeks old to remove cataracts in both eyes.
-1 surgery to separate her ring and pinky finger that were fused together.
-1 surgery because her left eye began to turn in.  After tests it was determined that her small bone growth caused the cervical spine to put pressure on her spinal column which included her optical nerve. They removed some of the bone to allow room needed for growth and development.
-1 surgery for her left ankle that was turning in.
-4 surgeries on her back for scoliosis.  The last one was in February 2010.  During the last surgery they fused her entire spine to prevent further complications from the scoliosis.
